B17: Inquiry Essay Peer Edit #2

I think that your procrastination is closely related with your attention. As someone with experience with attention, I can completely relate. Sometimes for me it is not even about whether or not I want to do an assignment, it is just about how fast my mind is moving and as soon as I think “Oh yeah my mom told me to buy tickets home” I have moved on to that and left my assignment just waiting to be worked on. I will switch to different tasks a lot or go on a thought tangent, like you do in class and probably everyone else does throughout the day.
Maybe you could talk about why procrastination is so bad for you personally like how it negatively affects you, such as forcing you to stay up late to finish assignments last minute, missing things that are said in class - I do this a lot - I miss a sentence or two when I am getting my things out for class or when someone walks in and depending on the class or what is going on - those sentences may have been very important, so it is unfortunate to miss them.
I agree with Jimmy in that you should invite professional doctors and such to the table to introduce the prickles and psychology into why people procrastinate, since you are trying to make it relatable since everyone does get off track with their thoughts. Also, I think it would be interesting to get statistics like Jimmy said about how common procrastination is, even in Ivy Leagues, etc. Maybe talk about what you normally procrastinate on (unless it’s everything - for me it is anything except math/science).
Since you never mentioned you are failing out of class but you do address it as an issue - explain why it is an issue. Are you stressed out when you have to do everything last minute? Do you wish you had more free time? Do your assignments take twice or even three times as long as they should to complete? Do you feel like you are always working, yet never getting things done? Maybe the research online about experimenting with procrastination would say - set a timer for an hour and work for that hour without distraction and see what happens - or take a five minute break where you get up and move around and then get back to work and see if that helps. I think that also you could analyze how procrastination works for you. You obviously aren’t seriously hurt by procrastination because you have made it this far, so maybe that is just a technique you have. Maybe you really get down to focusing when things are last minute. Staying up until 6 am might not be the way to do it, but staying up the night before until 1 or 2 is not that terrible. Some people need that feeling of urgency in order to get them focused.

Stay focused on the essay, finish strong because I think a good reflection/conclusion would really push this essay above and beyond and good luck! You can do it!
